After a busy and varied Holy Week - services in Hampstead and Westminster, Fauré Requiem in St Martin-in-the-Fields, Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri in Ross-on-Wye with the Musical & Amicable Society, a cantata by Paul Csonka and the Arvo Pärt Stabat Mater in Epsom and a staged set of opera scenes in Guildhall including Hande's Semele - it was an exciting challenge to return to Schubert.

Iain Burnside's music-theatre piece, Why Does The Queen Die? was premiered at the Oxford Lieder Festival in September, and the revival was met with great warmth and enthusiasm by London audiences. An exploration of the life, work and friends of Franz Schubert, WDTQD? used pianists and singers from the Guildhall School to weave theatre, piano works and lieder together into an entertaining and moving reflection on a fascinating composer. A slot on InTune and great reviews made revisiting this piece a real treat!
